Social Skills programs available for checkout from my office:
Strong Kids 12 lessons for students grades 4-8
Strong Teens 12 lessons for students grades 9-12
Concise Curriculum 16 lessons (each lesson last 4 days) that incorporate reading, math, and language arts skills. The academics are on a 3.5-4.5 grade level and the content interest level is 4-12th grade.
Both of these are great for helping students debrief their own behavior. Remember writing tasks are very stressful wait until the student is calm before asking them to complete the form or scribe for them.
This file was a social story created for a high functioning student with Asperger's. He had just been dumped by his girlfriend and was not coping well. The first part is visual and text to address some specific inappropriate behaviors he was exhibiting. The second part was text we met several times and discussed a paragraph to help address the self-esteem issues he was having related to the break up. I know this seems silly but it totally worked!
This site has software to help train students with ASD to recognize facial expression, voice tone, ect.
Model Me Kids
This cool site has a great social skills curriculum that uses videos to teach appropriate social skills to students with ASD.
www.speaking of speech.com outstanding collection of social stories available in the materials exchange. This site is also listed under visual resources. The site also has a section on Lesson Plans and Data Collection with some excellent charts that could be easily modified to track IEP goal progress. This is one of my favorite new discoveries!
www.5pointscale.com Most of what is on this site is not free, but the concept is genius! Quantifying emotion and levels of all types of interaction on a Likert Scale. This makes the intangible concrete and straightforward for kids. You can check out the books from my office or just explore the site and create your own 5 Point Scales!
The Watson Institute Free social stories galore :). Go to teacher resources, then behavior stories. I love the high school social story about becoming a man and the appropriate behaviors a man shows. Social stories are best when created by student and teacher working together, but if you are artistically challenged or your imagination has been drained for the day these pre-made stories are just the ticket,
